Submission to Governing Authorities

Roman’s 13: 1-7 New International Version (NIV)
Submission to Governing Authorities
13 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
God has sovereignly allowed our government to rule over us. Who ultimately ends up in Congress and the White House is not, subject to the whims and moods of the American people. From a purely human point, God is in complete control.
3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended.
Treason is a high offense against government and God. Any person who levies war against the United States or adheres to its enemies by giving them aid and comfort has committed treason within the meaning of the Constitution. The term aid and comfort refer to any act that manifests a betrayal of allegiance to the United States, such as furnishing enemies with arms, troops, transportation, shelter, or classified information. If a subversive act has any tendency to weaken the power of the United States to attack or resist its enemies, aid and comfort have been given.
4 For the one in authority is God’s servant for you’re good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for any reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.
Good citizenship is the means to stay in good standing with the government.
5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.
Defiance of governing authorities is biblically permissible only when those authorities compel unrighteousness.

Every person should be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except God, and those which exist are established by God. Christians should resist a government that commands or compels evil and should work nonviolently.
6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing
Presidents, Congressmen, Congresswomen, Governors, Mayors, Police, all should have our respect. One of the greatest enemies to faith is laziness. It is much easier to lie and suffer than to rise and overcome.
7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respects; if honor, then honor.
Effectively communicating the gospel is directly related to the lives of those who speak it. Who are wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

Until next time Praise God!
